Whisco TV Guide

What Whisco plays, and what it will not

Whisco is a free, ad-supported index for households in the Gulf. It does not sell a subscription, and it does not rehost a channel that belongs to someone else. The picture comes from the place that owns it: a broadcaster’s own YouTube player, or the Internet Archive’s own player for a film marked public domain or Creative Commons.

What you can press play on

News is the clearest case. If a row is Al Jazeera, France 24, GMA News, Somoy TV or another named broadcaster, the stream is that broadcaster’s live embed. Their player stays on screen. Their ads, if they run any, stay theirs.

Films on the public-domain shelf are old titles whose Archive page says they are free to share. Those pages are the record. A recent cinema release is not in that set, because a film from this decade is still under copyright and we do not have a licence to host the file.

Series rows on the website, where they exist, point at uploads identified as the broadcaster’s own. If that check fails, the row does not belong on a shelf we are willing to defend.

What we will not add

A playlist file, a sticker on a Fire stick, or a “lifetime” line sold in a compound is not a source. Those bundles mix a few legal news channels with channels the seller does not own. We do not carry the second kind to make the first kind look bigger.

The phone app is a shorter shelf than the website. It is limited to official news and a small set of films we can point at. A title on the website is not a promise that the same title is inside the app.

If a rights holder wants a row reviewed or removed, legal@whisco.tv is the address. A valid notice takes the row down. That mailbox is not a place to buy a channel.
