Whisco TV Guide

How to tell an official channel from a copy

The thumbnails look the same. The difference is who uploaded the video, and that is the whole test.

The checks that take a minute

Open the channel page, not just the video. The name should be the broadcaster’s, and the page should carry the same logo you know from home. A channel called “GMA News Replay 4K” with a few thousand subscribers is not GMA. A channel that posts today’s episode an hour after the network, with no network in the name, is a copy.

On a live stream, the address should be that channel’s own live. YouTube shows the channel name under the picture. If the name is a person, or a shop, it is not the bulletin.

On Whisco, a news row is built from that channel page. The player that opens is YouTube’s, with YouTube’s controls. A page that jumps straight to a bare video file, with no broadcaster name, is not a row we treat as official.

Copies to skip even if they play

A full episode with a watermark, a Telegram link in the title, or a request to subscribe to a “backup” channel is someone else’s upload of a programme they do not own. It may play today. It is the upload that disappears when the real owner files a notice, and it is the kind of page that gets a free site into trouble.

Archive films are a different case. The record is the Archive item page, and it should say public domain or Creative Commons. A film page that does not say that is not made official by being old.

If you are unsure, play the broadcaster’s own channel and ignore the lookalike. The picture is the same. The permission is not.
