Whisco TV Guide

Arabic news in the Gulf, without a second dish

Arabic news does not require a satellite pointing at a specific beam. The big stations already run a live stream on their own YouTube channels, and a television in Manama, Jeddah or Kuwait City can open those channels with the account you already use.

The channels worth saving

Al Jazeera Arabic, Al Arabiya, and France 24 Arabic are the three to subscribe to first. Each is the station’s own channel. A live badge means the bulletin is on. France 24 also runs an English channel, which helps in a flat where not everyone wants the same language. Al Jazeera English is the same idea for the English bulletin.

Play them from YouTube on the television, or from the news shelf on Whisco, which opens the same kind of embed. The station keeps the player. A third-party app that hides the station’s name and asks for a yearly code is not a better picture. It is a different supply.

What this does not include

A drama that aired last night on a Gulf network is not granted to you because the news from that country is free. Series rights are sold separately. If the episode is not on the network’s own channel, this setup does not have it. MBC, Rotana and the national broadcasters have their own apps for a reason.

Sport is the other gap. A live match is almost never part of a free news embed. Anyone offering the match inside a news package is selling something the news channel did not include.

Subscribe to the three Arabic news channels, leave the codes alone, and the bulletin is there on an ordinary weeknight.
