Whisco TV Guide

News from home on a Gulf smart TV, without a dish or a seller

A rented flat in Bahrain, Dubai, Doha or Riyadh rarely comes with a dish pointed at the country you left. The evening news is still the programme people miss first. The legal way to get it is the broadcaster’s own live stream, usually on that broadcaster’s own YouTube channel, played on the television you already have.

What you need

A smart TV, a Fire TV stick, a Chromecast, or a phone that can show its screen on the TV. A normal home connection. No loaded box, no playlist file, and no one on WhatsApp selling “all channels.”

Open YouTube on the television and search for the broadcaster by its real name: Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, France 24, India TV, Asianet News, TV9, Somoy TV, GMA News. If the channel is live, YouTube shows a live badge. That picture is coming from the broadcaster. They keep their own advertising inside the player. You are not downloading the channel, and you are not paying a middleman for it.

A simple evening setup

Sign the television into YouTube once. Subscribe to three or four news channels from home, not thirty. Subscriptions are a reminder, not a bundle you own. When you sit down, open Subscriptions and pick the one that is live. If a channel is dark, it is off air or the broadcaster has ended the stream. Waiting does not fix a channel that has signed off.

Whisco TV’s news shelf is the same idea in one list: official live streams, opened in YouTube’s player. If a channel on that shelf is down, the honest result is a dead player, not a secret backup stream from somewhere else.

What not to add

A seller who wants a yearly fee for a stick has mixed a few of these free news channels with channels he has no right to sell. The news would have been free. The rest is why the stick dies when the seller’s line is cut. Sports is the usual bait. A live cricket or football feed on a random playlist is not the same thing as a news channel’s own YouTube page, and it does not belong in this setup.

If the television cannot install YouTube, the broadcaster’s own website is the second stop. A downloaded playlist is not.
